Fort Nelson B.C.

We're 12 days in on our trek to Alaska, currently in Fort Nelson B.C. We're in Pacific time zone and what's cool is it wasn't dark till around 11:30pm. Tomorrow we will cross into Yukon Territory maybe 200 miles away. The ALCAN highway is somewhat steady with traffic, I guess you'll have that with limited roads. The weather is back and forth and the road condition is decent but some spots are a bit rough. One spot of road worked my speedo/tach loose and broke the lens on the speedo in two. Currently it's wrapped in a ziploc®™© bag with zip ties and duct tape attempting to keep out water. Other than that the bikes have been running great. I'll be changing out filter and fluids when we get to Alaska and see if the valves are still in check. Tires have little wear with the milder temps and the rain helps out things a bit.

Canada is a great place with good people, but it is pricey. Steve in Calgary told me the farther north we go, we're going to get hosed by prices. He was definitely right, but I think our route has alot to do with it.

Last time I posted we were in Havre, MT, about 1400 miles and 5 days ago, the marker on the right.
We still have a bit of distance to cover to reach Alaska through BC and Yukon Territory.

Finally, the Rockies. This is when we were climbing rt 89 to St. Mary's Lake.

Ridiculously tasty and huge huckleberry desert at the Johnson's Cafe at St. Mary's.

Calling it a day with some cards. Dad's beating me at strip poker...

Road To The Sun in Glacier NP. Unfortunately the summit was under a 90 foot snow drift and not going to be open for another good few weeks. We were able to ride 13 miles of the road.

Crossing into Canada. The Canadian border guard was skeptical of my bike reaching Alaska.

Our ride through the Canadian Rockies was inspiring to say the least, and I thought the U.S. Rockies were something else... We had an extremely overcast day which ended up being just the right thing, riding in the clouds. I kept looking for hobbits, orcs and elves to pop out. The following pictures from Banff and Jasper do no justice to the actual grounds.

Lake Louise. Glacier is above Dad's head.

A glacier lake which I didn't get the name of, but that's alright. The water was an obscene blue like I've never seen.

Another slab of magnificent rock.

We came around a bend an was blindsided by the Athabasca Glacier. Again, the pic just doesn't get the size across of the ice. The 2 specs of black on the high spot of the ground in front of the ice is 2 people if that helps.

Distant shot of glacier. It was a good hike to the toe of the glacier but very much worth it.

Heading out of Jasper this morning.

Pix of Rt 40 between Hinton and Grande Prairie, the 2 lane scenic route towards Alaska. Trees, trees and more trees, absolutely beautiful. There's fuel at the beginning in Hinton, next fuel stop is 85 miles in Grande Cache and after that the next fuel is 115 miles in Grande Prairie. I'm loving it out here.
